Always Hit On the Wingman by JAKE
America's most trusted dating columnist with GLAMOUR Magazine
Any day is a good day when the UPS man shows-up with an unexpected package. It was the most perfect rainy day. Yes, I said perfect rainy day. I love when there's nothing on the schedule and I can just kick my feet-up and relax. All that's missing is a good book. And suddenly there's a knock at the door, but by the time I get to the door. My handsome UPS driver is long gone, but leaves my package.
OK don't get to crazy now, he knew I was home. Just a note I don;t recommend this unless you & your driver have a clear understanding. Plus you must also take into consideration the Thief. Enough about the UPS man. I already know where its from by the address on the label Conde Nast. I rip it open and see the dating book everyone has been asking for. “Always Hit On the Wingman”. Yes, I've been privilege to get first dibs on and provide my ASK KIMBERLY point of view. Now all I need are some snacks.
First some back history on Jake...
For more than fifty years, Glamour magazine's Jake columnist has served as a dating consigliere for millions of American women. Now, in his trademark no-B.S. Voice, Jake offered this indispensable guide for women. What are men really thinking? Among many other secret girl questions, I wont go into great 411 about. Jake has shared a man point of view insight, since 1956.
ASK KIMBERLY point of view...
I grab the book & immediately got comfortable to read it. Cover to cover all 191 pages of it. Anything relationships I'm all in. Its in my nature... The joyful romantic Virgo. I hadn't even got to the contents page & Jake has me laughing histrionically with his intro page: For everyone woman who's ever worn edible lingerie, Facebook-stalked a guy, or gone to bed with her phone on (just in case) and thought: There's got to be a better way. ROTFL (Rolling on the floor laughing). I can only admit to one and that's sleeping with my cell in the bed. I do it all the time & not because I'm waiting on a call. I use it as my alarm to wake-up in addition to read my scriptures first thing in the a.m. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.
I'll Call You... (Is this you ladies~View link)
On to Jake story...
To give you an idea about who Jake is, he's quite similar to Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City. There are a few differences though. Jake is kept anonymous and Jake provides a male perspective for the ladies. Jake provides real life stories, suggestions & insights to do the dating thing better. The book is filled with Aha Moments on Why you should Hit On the Wingman...and 9 other Secret Rules for getting the love life you want. There is also an essential secret on achieving that. I won't give it away, but I totally agree with Jake. Let's just say I'm that girl. Every now & then I found myself in tears laughing, because I just cant believe what women will do all in the name of LOVE. Throughout the book Jake shared some insights, so I tweeted a few with all my tweeps. Here are a few of my favorites
1. The best men don't send expensive flowers (Don't be upset you must read. Jake is keeping it real Chivalry).
2. You've got to broadcast your personality. If you're a nerd, let your nerd flag fly.
3. If he seems like a throwback, that's because he is a throwback.
4. You should fart in front of your guy just once. Just so you have the monkey off your back. (Remember Jake said this not me). I was laughing to myself for a good five minutes after I read this one.
I would love to share more with you, but I like you to experience what I experienced. I can truly say I'm really glad I'm comfortable in my own skin. Once you become the true you. You can most certainly laugh about the silly things & not take life so seriously. Embracing love is an extraordinary moment that can last a lifetime. Discovering who you are first, while connecting with someone else regardless if its for a season or a lifetime. Just enjoy the footsteps as you fall. Just when you do make sure he's the right person to catch you.
PS... As I mentioned earlier in my review Jake has been around for fifty-six-year's. Now not sure if you really got what I was saying. However let me break it down. There have been over a dozen Jakes during the years. A big part of the deal of being Jake is Jake must be single. “Always Hit On the Wingman” was written by one of the most recent. Without giving to much I'm elated to say Jake has fallen and found the perfect girl to catch him. Honestly that was the best part of reading the Wingman. Never underestimate the wingman.

CREATE YOUR OWN DESTINY...
I decree you a "HAPPY NEW YEAR"
I pray that everyone had a beautiful & safe New Year's Eve. As an Event Planner I produce many events throughout the year. For the past few years I have personally decided to bring in the New Year with the one person who “ALWAYS” has my back, continuing to feed my spirit even when I want to push the plate away. Most of you know my motto for life is "Living everyday like a FABULOUS Party". Contrary to belief this doesn't mean partying 24-7, but living an abundant lifestyle in “JOY”. In order for Joy to be a constant provision for me I most certainly need the correct tools to guide me throughout the year. These tools consist of my relationship with God which in turn helps me with my relationships with clients, loves one, friends & associates. On occasion my events fall on Sunday's, but when I'm not working I definitely make it a point to nourish my craving for the word & attend church. Sometimes on Sunday & many times Tuesday & Wednesday night Bible Study. When I can't attend I will watch my home church online and even DVR Joel Osteen.
Ringing in the New Year praying & fellowship at West Angeles COGIC ; Watch Night Service. This is my decision & doesn't take away from choices others make to bring in the New Year how they see fit. Bringing me to my point of creating your own destiny. Create the path in life you would like to take & not follow others footsteps. Be the creator of your own destiny, for you were born alone & will leave this earth alone. A quote I often say & live by. “Don't be a Carbon Copy. Be You, Be Unique, Be a Individual ”. What God has for you is for you. Let know one steer you away from your dreams. Center yourself around positive individuals that will uplift you while also guiding you on a road of excellence. If you haven't done so yet. Evaluate those energy drainers who want to steal your “JOY”. Take a close look there are lots of impostors who are the silent Rah Rah cheerleaders. Make a change today & place them on the bench for good. In order to move forward you often must evaluate where you are in life. If something is holding you back its time to make a trade. The trade is your destiny for a better future. I believe today is that day. I see you in the future & you look much better.
“My experiences change my perception”.
Evangelist Joyce Rogers
My motto for 2012~ My Destiny ~
Create the blueprint for your success...For the past 5 years I sought out a theme song. This song is similar to a intro for a show. Your life your show, so you would need a song right? Selecting the perfect song is important, as you will need to listen to it for 12 months. Over & Over. The selection must also be uplifting & apply to all areas needed for whatever comes your way. Good, Bad or Indifferent. It must do the trick, while placing you back on the road to excellence. This year “My Destiny” is planned out; literally. Destiny Board set in place where I will view everyday as a reminder to the navigation I need to follow for “2012”. Some items are action goals while others are destiny goals immediate & future. I am the creator & will hold myself accountable while in constant communication with the whisper from my spiritual navigation.
My Destiny 2012 Theme Song
The Best Is Yet To Come~Donald Lawrence
Food for the Soul... God never abandons a dream.
The promise is still in you! Look ahead in faith and begin to live out the destiny he has for you.

MOCHA WRITER turns MOCHA WIFE...
the drezrehersal...
![]() |
Jamie Fleming-Dixon Better Know As Mocha Writer |
the details...
Although I wasn't the planner for her wedding I stayed very close to her as she prepared for this precious day. Just like a mama bear making sure she received all the right things, while trying to enjoy the planning process at the same time. Preparing for a wedding can be a difficult task, when you have many hats to wear. If I saw a Facebook post or Tweet I found alarming. I was on it right away making sure she stayed focused and remembering the real reason for this “UNION”.
drezrehersal Tip... If relationships were easy; we would "ALL" be in one. The easy part is falling in "LOVE". The hard part is "Staying in Love".
![]() |
Jamie & Christopher's Engagement Session A Day of Fun & Falling In Love all over again |
I didn't need to worry about this with Jamie she's a writer and writer's are methodological. Following steps and checking all the fine details. Their “UNION” is solid. As business associate, sister friend and most importantly a Wedding Planner who always wants the details... I'm happy to share a Q & A and a sneak peek into Mocha Writer now Mocha Wife Wedding Day.“Enjoy”
the I Do's...
1. Mocha Groom & Mocha Bride say I Do...?
Answer: We Do... Mr. Christopher Dixon and Mrs. Jamie Fleming-Dixon.
Ques: 2. Please share with our readers the date, location of ceremony & wedding?
Answer: Both the ceremony and reception were held at the John W. Swails Center at Emmanuel College in Royston, GA.
Ques: 3. Did you two say your own vows? If yes, what was expressed.
Answer: Chris & I decided to go with the traditional wedding vows. Our eyes spoke those un-spoken words that only him & I knew just how much this day meant to us.
Ques: 4. How Will you Honor your Commitment to your Husband?
Answer: I will love him through good and rough times, always be a shoulder to lean on; I will respect him as a man, encourage and comfort him when necessary. I will stay true to him and be the best woman and wife I can possibly be.
Ques: 5. What does LOVE mean to you?
Answer: Love means: being free completely, 100% be yourself, still loving someone when you don’t like their behavior, picking and choosing your battles wisely, letting go, trusting that someone else has your best interest at heart. I also love this quote that I think defines love: "Love is giving someone the chance to break your heart, but trusting them not to."
Ques: 6. What was the most memorable part of your wedding? I like to hear both your answers.
Jamie's Answer: Both my mom and dad walked me down the aisle; the plan was for my mom to walk until she got to her seat, and my dad would walk me to the altar. Well, apparently, my mom couldn’t figure out where her seat was, so she was talking all the way down the aisle. My dad and I kept shushing her, telling her to be quiet and telling her that she would know when to sit down, but she kept talking. So, basically, we talked the whole way down the aisle, and I was shaking my head…it was fun though. (Brides chuckles after answering).
Christopher's Answer: My nephew (the ring bearer) cried during the whole ceremony, and my brother kept trying to cover his mouth and wipe his nose. (Groom chuckles after answering).
Ques: 7. If you could do it all over again-What would you do different?
Answer: I would not let other people stress me out, and I wouldn’t stress myself out either. I would’ve reminded myself that although my wedding day is one of the most important days in my life, it’s just one day.

PREVIEW BOOK PARTY~REWRITE YOUR STORY by SHIVAWN A. MITCHELL
Three things I'm all for is empowering, supporting, up-lifting others. One question I often get ask when being interviewed: What is Your Golden Nugget of Advice? Just one of my answers: On your journey to success remember to be a blessing to someone else that may be striving for where you are now. When ask by Shivawn Mitchell entrepreneur of the Love Movement Network if I would take part in her Preview Book Party "Rewriting Your Story". My immediate answer was I would be honored. Just a little background on how I have had the pleasure to know Shivawn. Shivawn & I initially meet through a networking group that wasn't the Love Movement Network, which anyone who knows me knows I'm extremely comfortable being the sociable butterfly. That immediate connection than spilled over to twitter, which then lead her to interview me for her Radio Show. We have since than built a bond that far exceeds social networking. So, if you want the truth that may not always be served on a pretty platter I'm the girl to come to. I Say What I Mean & Mean What I Say, but the deliver is often with "LOVE".
Soon after me saying yes, I received Shivawn first chapter titled, Loving Him More Than Me. The title alone definitely got my attention and I said to myself this is going to be deep. I made sure not to have any interruptions so I could give all my attention to the 12 pages that she in-trusted me with. It's like turning over your precious baby to someone and saying don't drop them. "Big Pressure". I won't give you the full details of the chapter, but it hit a core with me. OK , I enjoying teasing just a bit so I'll share a paragraph of the chapter with you.
I remember coming back home from work one day, thinking about how I was tired of chasing men and dating ones who had commitment issues. I pretty much was in a serious dating slump by choice. So, I decided, out loud, that with the next guy I dated, I was going to take it slow, no rushing into a relationship just because my marriage plan hadn't worked out.
The plan was that I would meet my husband in college, we would graduate, get married, have children, live in a nice house and attend church every Sunday. My plans so didn't work out that way.
This particular paragraph was a red flag for me. However, life is like being in school 24-7~365 days. You're learning something everyday, then tested. You either "APPLY" the lesson or "FAIL" in the process, but "NEVER" Give-Up. After reading the chapter and providing my feedback to Shivawn to then receive an email back from her making me aware referencing words of encouragement for a Blog post I had written awhile ago. The post made a huge impact on her, which in-turn she makes reference of in the book Rewrite Your Story. I had no idea of this when she initially came to me to be part of the preview book party. Which now I know the favorable blessing I'm currently working on is definitely GOD saying your steps are moving in the right direction.
Shivawn is headed in that right direction with her Love Movement Network who's mission is
living out visions eternally through a community of women and teens of all ethnicity's and various ages that are committed to increasing their awareness in personal growth, financial freedom, health-beauty wellness, and developing entrepreneurs. It is our mission to impact each others lives in a positive manner as well as our community and the next generation.
I'm confidant that her personal journey will assist other women in its never to late to Rewrite Your Story. After reading the first chapter I was on pins & needles wanting more. I'll be waiting for the mail man everyday until I received my autograph copy.
Now that the previewing party is over let's get started with the pre-order party via @ www.shivawnamitchell.com Rewrite Your Story pre-orders will be available until August 31st. To view my preview party comments on Rewrite Your Story~Loving Him More Than Me

LIFE LESSON IN TRUST...
Going about your day requires patience & grace. Patience that you won't encounter some knucklehead to ruffle your feathers. Grace that you know how to handle without re-acting if it should happen. Part of my daily prayer always includes asking God to continue guiding me in the right direction that is his will for me along with patience, grace and hope. I started to really think about that those words that have consistently been the recipe for my day-to-day. Now, I know the world isn't always peaches and cream. Although that would be super sweet if it was. So when the peach goes bad & the cream goes sour. Who Do You Turn To?
Your first instinct may be to call a good friend. Take a deep breath so you're thinking clearly and not re-acting to the situation at hand. You should be careful who you share your thoughts with especially when everything is a big blur. Taking a timeout to re-gain your thoughts will provide you some solitude in what to do next. Having a confidant you can turn to is great. Having someone who has your best interest at all times is priceless. I had a moment in time yesterday that I needed to take my own advice. Instead of leaping out to a friend I knew there was a better way to handle what I was feeling & the relief I needed. Something I tell myself daily is: Let No One Steal Your Joy. But, we're human & although I try to live a stress free life thinking happy thoughts throughout the day. The mood does shift from time to time. Where Should I Turn? PRAYER... In my moment of praying for answers with the situation I was dealing with. I had an Aha Moment of "TRUST". Trusting in God, that the exact issue I was upset about was something I had been praying on consistently for the past month. Not recognizing it at the time, this is exactly what I ask God for. And finally he answered my prayer just on his timeline. Placing trust in God that he will provide you the answers when the time is right. The word trust came over me seven times over. Re-evaluating what had taken place by just breathing, centering myself to think logically. To then realize I hadn't applied the three words I always include in my prayers everyday and yes the first thing I wanted to do was call a girlfriend just to vent. Life comes with challenges and what may be monumental to us is a piece of cake to God. Trust in him to navigate you through the bad traffic of life.
To my surprise when I called one friend she didn't answer. I started to call another, but was interrupted by a incoming call. The funny thing is I know God intervene at both times guiding me to seek him. My Aha Moment of this story is TRUST. Placing your trust in God & not man. Friends, Family, Associates & Relationships will disappoint you. God will never disappoint you, lead you down the wrong path or give you bad advice. In no way Am I saying friends give you bad advice, but at times you're seeking a conflict of interest advice. Trusting takes 100% commitment and no one has your back more than GOD. You may be in the middle of a life challenge now or face one in the future. How the recipe turns out depends on if you use the right ingredients. The recipe is TRUSTING in God. To do this calls for Guidance, Grace, Patience and Obedience in seeking God's will. Trust God and not Man to guide you through the perfect recipe. We all have minor hiccups in life its part of growing and becoming a better you. I'm back on my square and ready to get in the game called life. There's a reason for In God We Trust being placed on our currency. If you know the reason why, please share by commenting below or should you had an Aha Moment we love to hear your story.
drezrehersal Tip... Life Lesson I learned today is that it takes year's to gain trust and just a single moment to destroy it. Place your trust in God's hands for he will never forsake you or betray you by sharing what you bring to him in "TRUST".
Food for the Soul...
Psalm 12:6: The Lord's promise are pure, like silver refined in a furnace purified seven time over.
Psalm 13:5-6: But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me.
Psalm 37:4: Take delight in the Lord , and he will give you your hearts desires.

GLAM'ONDAY ALERT...HOORAY FOR SUMMER
![]() |
Time to Exhale and Let Go...Its SUMMERTIME! |
HOORAY FOR SUMMER... Are you excited as I am about Summer? We're only into week one; although the weather hasn't been cooperating that shouldn't stop us from preparing for what we know will be a great summer season. Placing positive energy into the universe is definitely a start to what you desire for yourself. Place it into existence and it shall be. The next few months for me will consist of weddings, events, business functions, networking, continuing day-to-day business operations. And through it all I still must put time aside for me. Regardless of what is going on, always make time for self. You only have one life and as I always say you can't continue to be everything to everybody while not taking care of you first.
Summer should be a time of exhaling. Letting go of all the responsibilities months prior. As a child growing-up didn't you look forward to summertime? Why stop now as an adult? Close your eyes and let's experience the goodness of summer... Take a deep breath while I'll take you on a brief vacation to experience the goodness of summertime. Smell the fresh air, have a nice cold glass of lemonade, put your feet-up reading a good book, sitting out by the pool, placing your feet in the cool ocean, running along the beach with the wind flowing through your hair, having a picnic at the park with someone special, or just taking a scenic drive. It's just that simple... "ENJOY LIFE". ENJOY your surroundings, ENJOY the simple things, ENJOY family, ENJOY friends, ENJOY breathing tranquility, ENJOY time alone. If you're not enjoying life than there's no time like the present to make a change.
First Step: Make a list of what you desire to change and post it in a place you can see it clearly each & everyday. Second Step: Take Action...Viewing the list everyday makes you accountable for what you place in the universe. Third Step: Go for it... As you put changes into action, make sure to have positive people in your world along the way. Making a change just may be to eliminate those who really don't have your best interest at heart. I call them pity party monsters.
drezrehersal Tip... If you feel you're loosing yourself in day-to-day responsibilities. Just remember to live for today. For tomorrow will take care of itself. Keep this one word in mind when things get bumpy "ENJOY". Life will be more blissful if you keep this in mind. No one can create your happiness, but you. Live in the moment and just enjoy what god desires you to have. A life of abundance. Don't get discourage if you don't see immediate changes. Having faith is essential. Faith is confidence in that we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. ~Hebrews 11.1 NIV
To recommendations to "ENJOY" this Summer.

There are many factors in being the best wife possible. Years ago, our mothers & grandmothers were stay-at-home moms. In this tough economy, most couples are equally the bread winners. Nowadays, you balance a career, family, friends, and on top of all those responsibilities, you’re preparing to be someone’s husband or wife. I have an inside sneak peek for any woman who is newly engaged, newly married or preparing to get to the I Do’s and wants to stir the pot – in the kitchen, in love, and in life.
OK, I must say I have the best of both worlds. I adore my career, I love entertaining, and I like to eat. Oh, did I mention I’m a great cook, as well? As a child, I absolutely loved watching my mother & grandmother cook in the kitchen from scratch. What is Scratch? A home-cooked meal made from all fresh ingredients, not from a box & most of all, made with LOVE. Since I was a little girl, I was told, "The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach". Needless to say, it’s not the only way, but an important detail. Ladies, when you know how to cook — “REALLY COOK” — for your man, there’s no greater joy than to see the pure essence of love on his face when he sits back and says, “Aww baby, that was delicious.”
Once upon a time true story…Getting to the I Do’s — There was an easy roast chicken recipe, handed down by a fashion editor at Glamour Magazine to her assistant, who was in search of a dish to prepare for dinner with her boyfriend. She made the chicken. Her boyfriend loved it. He had seconds. And shortly thereafter, he proposed. But that’s not all: Three more young women at the magazine made the chicken for the men in their lives, who then, in short order, popped the question. Soon after, Glamour published the recipe, dubbing it, naturally, Engagement Chicken – and since then, the magazine editors have heard from more than 70 women who have gotten engaged after making the dish. Commitment-phobes be warned: This bird means business!
Sneak Peek… Now, most of you know I’m an accomplished wedding & lifestyle producer, and the Los Angeles Go-to-Girl for Glamour Magazine. The reason behind why I have my hands on a copy prior to it going on sale. But, I’m providing you a sneak peek and giving you a heads up on a few of the details…
Cindi Leive and the Editors of Glamour have put together not just any cookbook, but a cookbook that includes 100 recipes every woman should know. From breakfast & brunch, nibbles, drinks, soups & salads, meat & poultry, seafood, pizza & pasta, meat-free mains, sides, cheap & easy meals, sweets and menus for any occasions, big or small. Whether you’re an expert in the kitchen or a novice eager to learn, it’s a fun book for the single ladies to get together & test some recipes out, or the newly engaged couple who wants to share an evening together cooking in the kitchen. And Ladies who want to get to the I Do’s… the cookbook has several “Engagement Chicken Success Stories.” The book will be in stores April 5, or you may reserve your copy now, and just maybe this time next year, you’ll be saying I Do…
the details… The recipe titles are fun, inviting and a little sexy. Here’s a peek at one of my many favorite recipes.
Simply Sophisticated Seared Tuna
1 tablespoon peeled and minced fresh ginger
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
2 6-ounce tuna steaks, about ¾-inch thick
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 scallions, thinly sliced
Directions:
1. In a deep dish or pie plate mix the ginger, garlic, brown sugar, soy sauce, and lemon juice. Stir until combined.
2. Season the tuna generously with salt and pepper on both sides. Place the tuna in the dish with the marinade and turn to coat. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour, turning the fish at least once.
3. In a large cast-iron skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil moderate-heat.
4. Remove the tuna from the marinade, pat dry, and add the steaks to the skillet. Cook, turning once, until browned and just cooked through, about 8 minutes total. Transfer to plates and sprinkle with scallions. Serve. (If desired, heat the remaining marinade in a small saucepan and boil for 2 minutes, then serve with the tuna).
Yes, I’m a sucker for sushi and this will hold me over until I’m able to go to my favorite sushi spot. I have two treats for you!
First Treat…On this upcoming GLAM’ONDAY we will be tweeting titles of additional recipes that I think are fabulous for entertaining on all levels using the hashtag: #100recipes @glamr100recipes. Follow us throughout the day @weplanevents and feel free to RT the tweets you think sound yummy for your tummy.
Just a reminder that we think love, engagements and marriage go hand & hand. It’s an equal playing field, and I personally think it’s sexy when a man says, “Honey I got this!” And gets in the kitchen just as good as I can. Even better is doing it together as a partnership. Guys, flip the script, and learn the recipe to engagement chicken, and maybe she’ll be proposing to you. (Smiles & Happy Cooking).
