I'm going to share a story with you that  sounds straight out of a Lifetime movie. In life we feel if we follow God's footsteps all our blessings will be meet. If only life would be so easy.

Yes, that's what I learned as a child growing up & I try exceedingly hard to do the right thing. Unfortunately everyone doesn't have that same divine guidance as you. There is a strong chance you could come across many who tip toe through life with not so great intentions.

Getting Real...A big issue lies in the Cinderella story. Times have chance since that story book fairytale was told to me and for a lot of little girls who grasp on to that romantic glass slipper ending. The keyword all along is “FAIRYTALE”. Fairytale Meaning: 1. A story, usually for children about elves, hobgoblins, dragons, fairies or other magical creatures. 2. An incredible or misleading statement, account, or belief.

So, why do we continue to read such books to our children giving them false hope and not real reality? Which brings me to little girls fantasizing early on about their wedding day. The hopes of riding off into the sunset & living happily ever after. In our initial consultation with couples about their special day; one of the questions we ask is: What type of wedding do you envision? The answers we receive are remarkable. The wedding day should signify a day of two joining as one. The ceremony is the most important part, however the reception usually gets majority of the attention. Go into the marriage being real, not fantasizing about living in a magical castle with your fairy godmother granting every wish. Entering the marriage with that mindset & you will be disappointed. The wedding day is about the experience you create, an unforgettable celebration that is everything you've dreamt it would be. If you start it with false hope you will end with a false reality. Once all the guests have said their congratulations and gone home. The real planning of your “UNION” has just began. Will you be prepared?


As a wedding planner, mentor, writer & blogger who often speaks & addresses relationships topics. I'm always interested to see what women & men think about dating & marriage. I was invited to attend the YAM-Young Adult Ministry Relationship Series Part 3. It was only supposed to be one evening. Well the panel discussion was so intense, then headed by a long Q & A. It was fair to say there was a strong interest the YAM's wanted & needed more. YAM as young adults have real, legitimate questions and concerns about relationships and how to conduct themselves according to the word of GOD ...So a Part 4 was scheduled for the following week. OK get ready for the topic... Possible Signs of a Down Low Brother.

Panelists included: Pastor Sheryl Reaves who gave a heart wrenching testimony of the Down Low Brother ; Relationship Coach Ryeal Simms; Sister Sylvia Reid ; Newlyweds Mr. & Mrs. Ferguson-Editors of Impact the Magazine; Professor Precious Umunna and Comedian Ron Gee. OMGoodness Pastor Reaves story left me with my jaw to the ground & that is hard to do. I have heard it all, but this was deep. I truly believe even the other panelists were in Awe to her testimony. Coach Ryeal laid it out from a mans point of view. And let me just say it was a crystal clear view. Sister Reid, with her soft spoken voice that had all the men melting and paying attention closely, but her realness I loved it; Mr. & Mrs Ferguson the newlywed couple who shared there dating experience & just how they work together as a team was refreshing; Professor Umunna the knowledge that flows from her is direct and to the point & last but not least Ron Gee added his comedic touch to ease the room, but surprisingly shared a side of him I'm sure most didn't know was in him. Ron Gee actually, funny on the outside, but all soft & filled with substance on the inside. Yes, ladies he's one of the good brothers. The man you want but often don't give him a chance.

~Setting Boundaries~At What Co$t Do You Find or Keep Love?
Prior to marriage there's a courtship. "Hopefully” If not see #3 below. I've personally learned a few boundaries you must possess when courting. It's so important not to get fully engulf in the courtship, that you either miss or ignore the “Red Flags”. Dating is optional. You can walk away at any given time. Marriage is a Union that two people should consider very carefully. Marriage is “CONTRACTIONAL”. I know that sounds extremely business like. Right? Well it is. Before a marriage is recognize you must sign a marriage license. You stand before God, Justice of the Peace, Pastor, Bishop or Rabbi (you get my point) And profess certain agreements as Husband & Wife. Marriage is a lot harder to walk away from &at times can take even longer than the planning of the wedding itself.


I'll never forget at a past Sunday Service at West Angeles COGIC. That particular morning we had a guest speaker- Dr. Cosby. The sermon title was " When God Doesn't Come".  A portion of Dr. Cosby sermon was about Praying Dumb Prayers.  Be careful what you pray for. Because you just may get it.  Dr. Cosby big question to the congregation ; Have you ever prayed a dumb prayer? A job you wanted or a person you wanted to date back in the day. Sometimes " When God Doesn't Come" you should say "Thank You".  If you click the WGDC link you will be able to listen to a portion of the sermon, but he goes into great detail that not only makes the congregation think but laugh with a Aha Moment I'm sure.

You've prayed to be with a certain individual. Prayer is answered... you receive, you court, you than marry. After year's of being with this person you are now praying :How to get rid of. (Figuratively NOT Literally) The congregation laughs. That was an Aha Moment for me. Yes, I did laugh but then reflected back to doing that exact thing in my mid 20's. I'm thankful to God that my prayer was answered because that relationship taught me a great deal. However, even more grateful that he stop me years later in another Aha Moment. Whispering to me,  my child this is not the one. I listen, but at the time really didn't understand Why. I had faith he would bring me through. His plan for my life was different than the plans I was making at that time. That's when I initially learned about seasons. People enter your life at times for a season & others for a lifetime. As I grew closer to the word, I knew it wasn't for me to understand. Just know that he always has my back & now I can face forward & continue to listen for the whisper. I completely understand & get it now & proceeding with my gut. “Always” listen to the Whisper, so you can avoid the Bang. Although I didn't marry that person, I can say we are the best of friends & continue to be there for each other through all seasons.

~5 Tips to Setting Boundaries, that will help you hear the Whisper to avoid the Bang~

1. ASK the right questions when dating. Not surface questions. Get to the hard core substance questions. Dig deep into the individuals character, beliefs, religion, family, future aspirations and past, etc. Yes, the past. A lot of people don't like to go there, but Why. You will learn a lot. What you don't ask you don't know.

Testimony: Asking the right questions, enabled Pastor Reaves to recognize that her significant other had a possible double lifestyle.


2. Don't be a serial dater. If you have a desire to be married, have kids, live out of the country in two years. Seek/Date someone who wants the same. If he/she says 3 months in; that's not what I want. Keep it pushing. Don't settle thinking that person will change their mind or you can change their mind. Revert back to Ques #1. ASK  in the beginning of the courtship.

Statement via Sister Sylvia Reid: I love this statement. You should only raise vegetables & children. Not your Boy/Girl Friend, Husband or Wife.


3. Listen to the whisper. If it sounds to good too soon. “Run”.


4. “ALWAYS” be your authentic self from day one. Do not send your representative and most importantly don't change who you are to please that individual. False pretense aren't reality in the long run. Get Real or Get Gone.


5. When someone shows you who they are the first time. “Believe It”. Do not stick around for a second or third time. Keep it Pushing.


Bonus Tip...Before you can truly give 100% love to another. Absolutely essential you l♥ve & know yourself first. If you don't completely know you, its impossible to know what you want or need for a lifetime. And above all "TRUST" God to guide your footsteps. This doesn't mean have your guard up 24-7. Doing so just may block the blessing God is sending to you.

I open my arms to grab hold of all God’s Greatness…with that comes cleansing. Looking deep inside your soul searching an inner presence that belongs & purging what has no place to move forward.

Letting go and moving forward doesn’t always mean you no longer have a want or need for a certain existence in your life. Less than a week left until its "2011"  What are you changing if anything at all? Change is good and there's no time like the present to make re-writes in your life. Why do I say re-writes? Well life is much like a movie, a true story which you are the lead cast member. Every movie has a storyline sometimes its a feel good , action, love story, drama & even a thriller. First step to a movie is the writer. There must be a writer to get the storyline going. Once the script is complete you need to pitch it to the studios, then start the casting process that also includes who the director & producer will be. Does any of this sound familiar yet? Let no one write your movie but you, it's your life & your journey. Should you decide you want a feel good movie with a love story ending or do you prefer lots of drama that can ultimately be a thriller in the end? Create a vision board & set goals for where you like your life to be. Start small & do 2-3 yrs out and once you get the hang of it re-write do long term 5-7 yrs. If you can see it daily you'll be able to envision the storyline even more.

Who's the Director of Your Life?

Recently I watched the WIZ for the umpteenth time. One of my childhood favorite movies, which brings back feel good feelings, since my Nana took me to see it when I was about 10 or 11 yrs old. The first time seeing it I didn't quite understand it completely, but loved the music & storyline & hearing Diane Ross singing When I Think of Home. I get chills every time I hear that song very powerful. If you really listen to the words it says a lot. The older I got the more & more that song meant to me. That you could achieve & be anything in life if only you Believe. The WIZ is a perfect movie if you are trying to Take Your Power Back. Cast: Dorothy-Wanted to get Back Home ;Scarecrow- Wanted a Brain; Tin Man- Wanted a Heart; The Lion- Wanted Courage. Long story short in the end they had everything they needed all along, but just took sometime to BELIEVE.

So let's review: The Writer: (You) Producer: (You setting goals)  Director: Following God's footsteps & not mans footsteps and Cast: Surrounding yourself with like minded individuals who are on the same path as you. There's an old saying my mother use to tell me. You are the company you keep. If you want better you must allow yourself to be better. It's OK if something isn't working, just know when its time to move on & end the sequel. Create a movie of substance that you can be proud of & want to re-wind ,play all the time. Those are the movies to be cherished that you can always pull out watch over & over. Just as I do with the WIZ- I learn something new each & every time I watch it.

If you follow my Blog you will know that on September 1, 2010, I wrote a letter to myself. Not just any letter a Birthday letter; the letter was written as a symbolic Birthday gift to share my experiences on my  journey to "GREATNESS". For 22 days of September I provided 22 Steps to a "Better Me". 22 days were chosen because it's the day of my "BIRTHDAY". Yes today is the day...so each day I provided tips to a "Better Me" which you will see below.  If one of my tips can help another, than

22 Reasons to a "Better Me"

1. When you finally arrive to be completely comfortable in your own skin. Ultimately
a refreshing feeling.

2. Loving Life, Loving Me, In Love with Work. The secret recipe is having a “PASSION” for all three.

3. That inner voice we hear. Its called “Intuition”~”Believe It” and “Listen to It”.

4. Once you become in-tune w/ yourself- your life direction will become clearer to finding lasting happiness & fulfillment.

5. On your journey to GREATNESS, remember to be a blessing to someone else that may be striving for where you are now.

6. In order to move forward, sometimes you must leave a few behind.

12. Life is what YOU make of it. I'm making it GREAT! I accept nothing less than "GREATNESS".

14. DREAM bigger than I can ENVISION because nothing is too complicated for GOD to make a reality.

16. Welcoming the Universe~Asking for what you want, Believe it shall come to path and don't dwell on it, let it go and sit back and listen closely for God's blessing.

17. Indulge in the simplest pleasures of life. LIVE life to the fullest, LOVE unconditionally, LAUGH until you need a glass of water.

18. I'm a unique individual who's completely not a carbon copy and I only follow God's footsteps and make no apologies for it.

19. Allowing circumstances to be as they are at this very moment and live in a way, that they'll be better tomorrow.

20. Nurture my mind, heart and soul daily understanding when to let go. There is a Season for everything & not all things are meant for a lifetime.

21. I'll take mine sunny side up~always look on the bright-side, think positively. What may be a no today, will be a yes tomorrow. I choose to stay in faith and place my cares & burdens in God's hands and not Man's hands.

22. "HAPPY BIRTHDAY 2 ME" Heavenly Father, thank you for your faithfulness in my life and favor for another day. I am honored and humbled for many things in my life and without your graciousness & love along with my families love & support I would not be who & where I am today. Each day is a constant blessing I'm truly grateful for. As I continue on my journey to "GREATNESS" I will continue to walk faithfully in your footsteps, asking for divine guidance through good & bad days knowing the good days make me "Great" and the bad days make me strive to be a "Better Me". Thank you in Jesus name Amen.

Birthday Letter in Search of a "Better Me"


~Starters~I know for most of us we start off by reading our daily horoscope for the day. If it says something wonderful we believe it. If its not exactly what we want to hear we call it hog wash. We'll I must admit occasionally I do view my daily horoscope, but regardless if the outcome is favorable or not so favorable ; I know it's just something to get me going. What I read doesn't make what will happen for that day. I make what will happen for that day, by my thoughts and actions. Just to give you an insight my Birthday falls on the cusp, so sometimes I'm a Virgo and other times I'm a Libra. I'm definitely a true VIRGO though.

Living life like everyday is a FABULOUS Party...

Every year prior to my Birthday month I reflect on the year and review goals, dreams ambitions I have set out for myself. Whether I have accomplished them or not. Life isn't a dress rehearsal and each day counts for something. Life is short and it goes by so quickly. I remember when I was 29 and let it be know I'm still 29 (smile). One thing I can truly say is I'm blessed to have good genes. Thank you Mommy. It doesn't stop there though, but I'll get into a little later. Celebrating another birthday is a blessing and not to reflect on your life is a disadvantage to the growth of you as an individual. I started with the horoscope to set a tone, that it's all in FUN, however my daily recipe for guidance in my life is "GOD". Without him nothing is possible and my guidance & direction for my life comes from faith and daily prayer. Each morning the first thing I do is pray and give thanks for another day along with Reading Today's Word from Joel & Victoria Osteen and then watching my morning pick me up with Creflo Dollar. Having a strong foundation of faith is key and the shield to get me through each day. I would be dishonest if I said I don't encounter obstacles, however if you follow my Blog you will know where I stand on overcoming obstacles, so I won't go into it here.

I recently wrote an article for Weddzilla on 5 Things I Recommend Every Women To Do Prior To Marriage ~ Life Lessons In Search for Happiness. The responses and replies I received were overwhelming and I was ask to share more tips on Life Lessons In Search for Happiness. Over the month of September, I will share 22 Reasons Why I'm a Better Me. Why 22? because it's my Birthday. Celebrating your Birthday is a moment in time to reflect on your life. If things aren't going perfectly for you, you didn't get the promotion, you broke it off with your boyfriend or girlfriend, you're not where you expected to be in life; those are all just obstacles that you may have encounter. It doesn't mean it will be that way forever. It's your life and if you want better things to happen then you need to stepped out on faith and push, pray until your dream has come true. No one makes it happen for me, but "ME" I create my own destiny and have the determination and ambition to succeed as far as my dreams will lead me. Of course my ultimate cheerleader is "GOD" directing my footsteps one step at a time.

I have had to clean house of many things, people who were holding me back or didn't have my best interest at heart. There comes a time in life where you just get it. It has nothing to do with you, but more about "Me" and what I want for my life. Happiness Inside & Out. Genuinely to BE HAPPY. I'm on a mission for a "BETTER ME" and sometimes that means in order to expand your vision you must close the window on others.

I’ve encounter frustrations, distractions, challenges along the way. Things we all go through in life, however it has made me a "BETTER ME" because of it. I have truly come into my own . What that means is I have finally arrived to be comfortable in my own skin and that is ultimately a refreshing feeling to have. By me sharing my experiences , hopefully I can reach one teach one. You only live one life, make the most of it. With no disappointments and no regrets. I'm often ask what are your plans for the next 5 years? As I have said life is not a dress rehearsal, but the wedding planning process is. My career (drezrehersal) is a LIFESTYLE and my plan is to continue to live everyday like its a FABULOUS Party.

Create a Dippin' Dots Dessert Bar...

Dippin' Dots Root Beer Float: The root beer must be very cold when you make these floats, or the dippin' dots will melt quickly. drezrehersal  Bonus Tip... 
Put your float glasses in the freezer for 15 mins for a frostier float.

Vanilla dippin' dots

Ingredients:

~2 scoops super-premium ice cream

~16 oz. bottle A & W or Dad's Root Beer (for Foamier Float)

~1 scoop of Root Beer Float dippin' dots sprinkled on Top

Preparation:Pour about 1/2 cup root beer into the bottom of each glass. Carefully add one scoop of ice cream to each glass, then fill the glass with more root beer. The glasses will probably overflow - that's part of the fun! ten sprinkled the root beer dippin' dot's on top.
Eat slowly, starting with the cold frozen foam on top mixed w/ the root beer dippin' dots, scooping ice cream and root beer together with your spoon, then drinking the creamy,
caramel colored root beer as crunchy meets smooth. Yummy'luscious

Banana Split dippin' dots

Dippin' Dots Banana Split:

Make sure your banana's are in season and firm, not too ripe. Otherwise it will be more like baby food than a Yummy'luscious banana split.

Ingredients:

~2 ripe-firm bananas, halved lengthwise

~2-3 scoops of  premium vanilla ice cream

~whipped cream as much as you like go crazy

~1 cup banana split dippin' dots sprinkled on top of whipped cream

~have a variety of sauces available at the dessert bar store brought or homemade  

   (chocolate, caramel or strawberry)

~have peanuts and shaved toasted almonds available at the dessert bar.

  They may choose  one or both

~cherries

Preparation:

Place the ripe-firm bananas in a large dish. Scoop 3 to 4 balls of ice cream onto the bananas. Top with the whipped cream, sprinkled banana split dippin' dots on top, then place the sauce of your choice on top along with peanuts or almonds and don't forget the cherries.
