Take Six with Celebrity Stylist Jazmayne Chatman featuring her altar ego Glam Squad.

Take Six Q & A of six personal questions with celebrities in the Fashion, Beauty, and Entertainment industry who are dancing to the tune of their own beat while staying true to self.

Take Six with Celebrity Stylist Jazmayne Chatman
featuring her altar ego Glam Squad

Jazmayne Chatman  a rising star in the hair industry. With less than five years of professional experience, she has styled for the likes of Bella & Zendaya of Disney Channel’s hit show Shake It Up, Bon Jovi, and Jaden Smith. Her secret to success being trained by greats in the industry, including her mother, celebrity hairstylist Tonya Cryer, along with Emmy-Award Winning stylist Hugo Coach.

As a teenager, Jazmayne spent weekends washing hair in her mother’s salon to make extra money. Initially, she did not envision a career in styling until she began braiding hair in high school and started a huge phenomenon of young girls rocking the original Alicia Keys look in 2001. After winning multiple hair show competitions while attending college, she discovered her love of creativity and transformation that ultimately change the course of her career endeavors.

Jazmayne quickly emerged as a key hairstylist in Los Angeles while embracing traditional hair care with innovative styling techniques; from weaving to coloring to outrageous avant garde creations all combing her love for high-end fashion in her hair creations. Jazmayne explains “I love expressing myself through hair, there are no boundaries.” Her creativity has led her to working on the set of Gwen Stefani’s video Harajuku Girls, which she notes as one of her biggest accomplishments thus far.

In addition to professional hair styling, Jazmayne is a self-taught makeup artist and fashion consultant. Her altar ego and creation of Glam Squad LA, a professional consultancy that combines her loves of hair, fashion, and makeup. From sweet sixteen celebrations to the runway, Jazmayne a one-stop shop for all things beauty, transforms clients from head to toe.

Jazmayne’s work ethic speaks for itself. She has been featured in publications such as LA Weekly , Black Sophisticates, and was a Top 20 finalist for both seasons of Oxygen’s Hair Battle Spectacularar.

Take Six Q1. Ms. Jazz extraordinary all things Fabulous, please share with our readers what you define as Fabulous?

A. Fabulous to me is being comfortable in your own skin. Having pretty pink and sparkly things are fun, but my definition of women with true confidence exudes Fabulosity.

Take Six Q2. A huge part of Glam Squad is the many faces you offer clients. Glam Squad equally altar ego and sister brand Princess Crownz which takes your clients from a five to a ten with three basic tools: scissors, styling comb, and a splash of color if their feeling extravagant. Share six altar ego styles and the transformation they each represent in one word?

A. All of my Hair Pieces are named after Celebrities and one after my Grandmother.
(1) Kate Frances is a short black European pageboy cut = CLASSY ; (2) Kelly Rowland is a Voluminous Kinky Curly Fro = SEXY ; (3) T-Boz inspired Razor Sharp Short Cut = EDGY ; (4) Azelia Banks = Teal, Blue & Green 28' Mermaid Hair = DARING ; (5) OMG Girl = China Doll bangs with three shades of purple = FUN and (6) Beyonce = DIVA

Take Six Q3. I'm extremely proud to see how you have maintain your professionalism and sense of style while expanding your brand even when work exceeds twelve hours on your feet often times no break in between. How do you manage staying passionate about the industry?

A. Thank You. As a young professional that is my favorite compliment. To keep an interest in hair styling, I take breaks away from it. Stepping away from the styling chair allows you to see all of the different trends and styles that are out there. Your clients want you to be innovative so its important for me to take the time to branch out while keeping a fresh perspective.

Take Six Q4. This is a question I'm sure our readers want to know. If a client brought you a photo of a style she was wanting and you knew it didn't work for her. Do you practice the customer is always right or do you keep it real and why?

A. When that happens, I always ask them to consider their occupation and lifestyle. Will their hair texture or up keep skills work with that look? There are a thousand questions that can be asked to ensure you meet the clients wants and needs. I'm definitely always honest with my clients.

Take Six Q5. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree. That main tree is your Mom my client Ms. Tonya's of Hollywood who is currently working on the ABC hit show Scandal. Many individuals inside/outside the entertainment industry say and think “It's who you know, that makes things happen.” However, it takes more than that. You have acquired your celebrity styling status by creating your brand on your own terms. Please share a few words of wisdom and encouragement to stylists who desire to be where you are now and the main points they should focused on.

A. “Originality”. There are an enormous of professionals educated in this field. You “Must Stand Out” and show what makes you unique. “Perception” People should know you're a stylist at first glance. “Focus”on what YOU do well. I'm an extension/color specialist, I experiment and enhance my craft with furthering my education as often as possible. Don't minimize your craft by not continuing to educate yourself or others. Never get so big in the head to learn more; from anyone, all artist have something to share.

Take Six Q6. Ms. Jazz and the Glam Squad team not only making a name for themselves in lalaland, but globally as well. Fresh back from one of Atlanta's hot events “Bronner Bros International Hair Show” Share what we can expect from Jazz, Glam Squad, and Princess Crownz today, tomorrow, and the near future?

A. Its time for Jazmayne Chatman's brand to grow. I have all of this creativity and I need the right avenues to channel it. Princess Crownz is my new baby that is growing faster than I imagined. There is a huge market of women and children that wear prosthetic hair and I want to help them embrace their confidence in wearing natural looking, current styled wigs in a fashionable way that helps them feel comfortable in their own skin.

Bonus Ques. I believe in placing your desires into the “Universe” you've been blessed to work with clients such as LaToya Luckett, Actress Bresha Webb “Love that Girl”, Tae Heckard from BET, “The Game”, Mindless Behavior, and Edge Magazine, LLC.,but let me help you place good vibrations into the “Universe” Name two actresses, actors, or musicians you wish to style.
Tae Heckard-BET  The Game
Laura Govan-Basketball Wives LA

A. I would love to create Princess Crownz for Katy Perry, Azelia Banks & Tamar Braxton. These ladies wear their extensions proudly and would represent my brand well.

Take Six reply. And we're claiming it today. “Amen”

Take 6ix. Always a pleasure to sit down and speak with you Jazz. I know the sky’s the limit for your future as you are a force to be reckoned with in this industry.

Jazz motto is “Give me a vision and I’ll give you a transformation.”

2012 Black Girls Rock Profound Quotes

Black Girls Rock Fashion, Beauty,  and Power: One question that is often presented to me  is What Encompasses Beauty?  Over the years I have shared many quotes as what I think defines beauty although, the meaning will vary with each individual woman. Finding the true essence of what defines your style & beauty must come from within. I believe every woman has her defining style whether its through the twinkle in her eye, the fullness of her lips,  the sway in her stride or the strength in her presence. I can walk-up to an individual and compliment her without a second thought that she is competition. We must learn to support each other, as a team, we can be  more effective standing together, than trying to stand alone.  An inspiring moment I look forward to every year is "Black Girls Rock"  as I sit and watch the show, for me its not about color, but the character these women exude should make any woman strive to be and do better.  Each year I have a take away that I share and below is last years.
Black Girls Rock (BGR)

G~Gratifying
R~Remembrance
that "WE" Matter...
~Kimberly~

BGR- Inspires me to look deep within the essence of not only myself, but also the power of other women. POWER isn't just about leadership. Understanding that each one of us is in control of turning the power within on. Owning the inner essence of who you are ; who you want to be, and allowing yourself to have a support team that guides you all the way. While dressing-up and getting GLAM is fun, true GLAM is "God Loves Always Magnifies." To view last years Black Girls Rock.

2012 Black Girls Rock Profound Quotes
:
I'm thankful for Beverly Bond, Founder of Black Girls Rock, a former model,  renowned DJ, and now executive producer of an awards show, which is named after her organization, Black Girls Rock!. Black Girls Rock!, Inc is a nonprofit, youth empowerment and mentoring organization that introduces music, poetry and theater to women of color. The annual Black Girl Rock awards aired recently on BET  Co-Hosting for a second time were, Tracee Ellis Ross and Regina King.

As Beverly Bond continues to  bring such awareness to the forefront of what are some extraordinary, electrifying, and amazing women in our country. The essence of education and the background these woman exude is priceless, definitely  footsteps any woman would strive to walk in. This year after viewing the awards show I took away various profound quotes from the honorees. Although, many were shared two stood out for me that left a lasting imprint in my heart.

Janelle Monae, Face of COVERGIRL, and Singer

"Embrace what is unique even if it makes others uncomfortable."

Alicia Keys, Singer, Actress, Producer, Wife, and Mother

"No one knows you better than you, trust yourself". "We are more than capable. Be on fire and set the world  a flame."

"EMPOWERED" BY BLACK GIRLS ROCK...

I truly look forward to watching Black Girls Rock. Its not so much about the title of the non-profit organization that is now a 2 hour celebration on BET. Celebrating a list of phenomenal women who just happen to be black. This year's BGR hosted by two exceptional women in their own right. Trace Ellis Ross & Regina King. I have a bypass opinion towards  Regina King, because I have seen her evolved into a beautiful woman all while keeping her true identity. And Miss Trace Ross known for her independent roll on Girlfriends.  Both women continually making strives and placing their footsteps in the sand.

BGR- Inspires me to look deep within the essence of not only myself , but also the power of other women. POWER isn't just about leadership. Understanding that each one of us is in control of turning that power within on. Owning the inner essence of who you are ; who you want to be and allowing yourself to have a support team that guides you all the way.

These women are unique, fierce, intelligent, gifted, strong and carry a spirituality full of love dancing to the tune of their own drum. A recipe that consist of vanilla, caramel, caramel latte, mocha, chocolate, and dark chocolate. A complete melting pot of girls rocking to the beat of passion and success. Cultivating the I CAN do anything attitude. Attitude a word that seldom is use in a negative context, however the POWER of the attitude keeps you focused to strive to do better. OPRAH's quote “When You Know Better; You Do Better”. And having a group of women such as these to give you a boost of empowerment that “WE” can do better. I only ask for one thing to those who are reading this post. That women  learn to support each other more, than we tear down. And only then we can all rise to the pinnacle of our destiny. However, ladies you CAN NOT do it alone. It takes support, mentoring & loving each other. Not the side eye, turned up lip, stank attitude that you are better.

This year I'm empowered by all the Black Girls Rock honorees, presenters and talented group of women. Owning your power is about sharing your successes & failures with others. I prayer that one day we can truly be authentically supportive of each other success & triumphs to make life better for ourselves, our families and while keeping in mind there are young women watching our every move.

Regina King & Beverly Bond
Fierce & Fabulous
A rocking shout out to Beverly Bond for creating Black Girls Rock. A positive reminder such as this is just what we need. Giving praising & thanks to the many women who are setting the path of life, that you to can achieve. Regardless if you walk in the footsteps of acting, music artist, producer, entrepreneur, leader & YES, the first woman president. There are many footsteps for you to follow or be unique & create a new destiny. Achieving goals in life isn't easy & if it were easy you wouldn't appreciate the blessings.

Let this be a present reminder to Never Give Up.
P.U.S.H {Push, Pray Until Something Happens} . And when it doesn't happen when yo expect it, know deep down in your heart that God knows & understands the vision for a life of abundance.

In closing if you give yourself any gift. Give yourself the gift to surround yourself with like minded individuals that will authentically uplift & support you un-conditionally. If this show doesn't light a fire under you . There's only one additional gift that will. "GOD". Trust, believe & under no circumstance do you give up! Continue rocking while pursuing your dreams & desires. Each day is a new day to be Empowered, Encourage & grab hold of your Equal Opportunity as a Woman.

Trust & Believe and Under No Circumstance
"Never Give Up"

Last year's I ROCK...I ROCK for many reasons but the one I live by is: Living everyday like a FABULOUS Party~not just through living, but loving "ME" and most importantly loving "GOD".

This year's I ROCK:
I ROCK... by God's grace & mercy, that I know through him & him only living in “JOY” is possible. By any means necessary I'm grabbing hold of and not letting go. This means in order to move forward if I must leave a few behind then so be it. On a new navigation of   “JOY”, “GRACE”  “SERENITY”. I will keep driving until I hear his whisper saying my child you have arrived.

Black Girls Rock: Since 2006 dedicated to the  healthy development of young women & girls. Black Girls Rocks seeks to build their self-esteem and  self-worth by changing their outlook on life and broadening their horizons all while helping to empower themselves.

The BGR 2 hour show that airs on BET is a format for African American Women to be recognized for their tremendous gifts & talents. However, all women bring special talents to the table and I would love for you to share your I Rock... Please place in the comment section below or place on our Facebook wall.  Remember, please be mindful in the future that we all need support in order to move forward. You may also show your support, by donating to Black Girls Rock.  That would definitely be a I Rock... moment.

Until next time live FABULOUS...

BLACK GIRLS ROCK EVENING MISSION:
Believe In Yourself Fearlessly

I was focused and ready to take it all in during the time of 8:00 pm-10:00 pm PST , There was no way I wanted to be disturb. So I made sure of it by posting to all my twitter followers: Just finish a GRT8 dinner now getting ready 2 watch @BLACKGIRLSROCK on @BET I'll be N the zone so friends this is said N LOVE #DONOTDISTURB. It took everything in me not to twit all the motivational messages during that two hour time frame from both Host, Presenters and Honorees not to mentioned the entertainment by a host of Fabulous Women sounding off Anthem Songs just for "US" Women., while supported by an all girl band. A message behind the words, it was most definitely powerful.

"HISTORY"
As I sit back & watched intensely BGR honoree & celebrate many great women. You couldn't help but be inspired by the words of various artist. If you watched the show and truly listen to each & ever word you were inspired & ready to make a change in your future or give of your time to make a difference to someone less fortunate. You succeed by remembering those who paved the way to make each day a little easier for us. It's key to have supportive people to hold you up, sho should you fall they will give you the encouragement to let no one steal your light for Greatness. What may seem impossible is just a bitter vitamin, you know you must take it to stay on the path to greatness. So every time you feel discouraged say to yourself "I CAN ROCK THIS".

"GET FOCUSED"
If you're trying to accomplish a passion, a dream, a destiny. Re-evaluate your inner circle & clean house of any toxins that are contaminating what just might be holding you back. Value your "WORTH" believe in yourself & "FOCUSED" for those who don't have your back let them stay in your "BLINDSPOT". For your direction is navigated by a higher power.

"MANY THANKS"
It doesn't take alot to get me inspired, because I'm already a believer in all things great. As I watch the show & took in so much wisdom of all facets of life from extraordinary, phenomenal women. One thing I realized is ; Dreams are more than a Vision. It's a detailed thought provided by God transforming the direction to you to take lead & move forward in life. No one knows your desires & dreams more than him. Listen, take his direction & soar my Beautiful Black Sister. I want to humbly thank all the women who have paved the way & made it alot easier for me to be the confidant, empowered women I am today. I believe in Me, I believe there are greater things in store for my future & I"m embracing the vanilla black girl in me to continue rocking it 110%.

I ROCK for many reasons, but the one I live by is : Living everyday like a FABULOUS Party~not just through living, but loving "LIFE", loving "ME" and most importantly loving "GOD".
